Course Description

Value does the work, color gets the credit. Using drawing media and/or a very limited palette, learn value-based alternatives for conveying the classic landscape elements of pictorial depth, sense of place, and seasonal feel. Students explore approaches through master sketch copies, in-studio still lifes, MIAD’s riverfront window views, and a possible off-site visit. Classes feature demonstrations and independent work with individual instructor feedback. Instruction utilizes pencil, charcoal pencil, and oil paints. Students proficient in other painting media are welcome to use them.
